LOGAN MEN SET TO BE TV STARS!

- By Alex Thrower

BURTON Park Wan- derers manager James Logan couldn’t be happier that their FA Cup debut been selected for BBC coverage – he was worried he’d let the cat out the bag!

The Step 6 club’s Extra Preliminary round tie against Step 4 AFC Sudbury on September 1 will be broadcast live on the BBC Sport website, app and iPlayer. Logan has been at the helm of the Northamptonshire club since last summer and knows how significant this event could be.

“My phone’s been going mad with people asking for tickets,” he told The NLP.

“The club being in the FA Cup for the first time was a big moment, but this has made it massive.

“I found out last week, I wish they hadn’t told me because I couldn’t tell anyone! “I try not to concern myself with the financial side, but you can’t ignore that it will be huge for the club. We can’t train at the ground because we share with Kettering Town so have to pay for a facility to train, likewise we can’t open the bar during the week.

“Now, we don’t need to worry quite as much. “The last few months have been tough, but this is reward for those at the club who put everything into it every week.” Wanderers finished ninth in the United Counties Division One last season, far clear of the original objective for Logan, which was to avoid the drop.

In fact, getting the club into the FA Cup for the first time was his ambition from the start. He added: “Last season we were confident of staying up, so we changed the objective. We needed to average around 1.6 points per game to get into the FA Cup. “We had an incredible run the last 15 games, when the league stopped, we were on that target. We got into the competitions through luck of the draw, but in my mind, we deserved it.

“It’s a shame we can only have 150 fans at the game, but it’s fantastic that now millions can watch it live on the BBC.

“My kids are really excited!”
