PAIR OF ACES ALL WHITE FOR WANDS

- By Alex Thrower

DORKING Wanderers boss Marc White reckons he’s bagged two of the best players in the National League South in Barry Fuller and Wes Fogden.

Midfielder Fogden, 32, began his career at Brighton before being part of Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side which gained promotion from League One to the Championship in 2013.

The Brighton-born player also wore the captain’s armband for Gillingham at Wembley in the 2009 League Two play-off final and has spent the past four seasons at Havant & Waterlooville.

Fuller, 35, also brings a wealth of experience, this time in defence. The Kentborn player made a staggering 233 appearances for AFC Wimbledon over five seasons.

“We’re really fortunate to get them both,” White told The NLP. “Our reputation has stood us in good stead. Wes is good friends with a few of the boys here so he was keen to join.

“Barry is a seriously ‘wow’ signing, I’m incredibly excited about him, his last game was for Gillingham away at Sunderland, so I think he’ll be absolutely fine playing for Dorking.

“We’ve had EFL players come and play for us in the past, but no-one who has come directly from the Football League to the National League South.”

White believes this season will be like no other, so bringing in two players with almost 850 professional games between them will be invaluable.

“It’s one of those years where you have to just enjoy it,” he added. “We need a squad that can handle playing three games a week. You’ve just got to go with it this season because it’s going to be so strange.

“Barry played with Mark Beard at Stevenage when they won the FA Trophy in 2007. Sam Beard, our full-back, is Mark’s son. So, Barry will have played with two generations which is incredible!”
