HITMAN SCOTT’S GOTTA LOT TO OFFER

Hornets ace seals big Cumbrians move

- By Mark Carruthers

TOP TALENT Cedwyn Scott is ready to show his ruthless side after completing a dream move into the Football League with Carlisle United.

The 22-year-old frontman plundered his way to 22 goals in just 16 games to help Hebburn Town race to the top of the Northern League Division One table.

His form captured the attention of Premier League giants Newcastle United as well as Sunderland and Morecambe.

At least two other north-east Non-League clubs are believed to have shown a keen interest in acquiring the striker, but Scott has now agreed to join League Two promotion chasers Carlisle on a short-term deal after impressing Cumbrians manager Chris Beech during a trial.

The deal sees Scott return to the professional game for the first time since he was released by Scottish Championship club Dundee in the summer of 2019 and he admitted that he will have to be ruthless if he is to earn a longer stay at Brunton Park.

“It’s been hard since I fell out of the professional game and I have worked hard to get back there,” he told The NLP.

“It’s been a year and a half since that happened, everyone has the dream of returning, but when you have a bad game, you feel like it’s not going to happen.

“I haven’t achieved anything yet, I am fully aware of that, but I am a step closer to where I want to be.

“Every day in training has been positive and everyone is working hard to get the club promoted into League One.

“Everyone is striving for the same thing, and I wanted to be part of that. The team is playing well at the moment so it’s harder to get in, but I am learning from very good players and I feel like I am improving with every session.

Emotional

“I know that I have to be ruthless to earn a place in the side because chances like this don’t come along very often.”

Step 5 Hebburn have not received a fee from Carlisle as Scott was on non-contract terms at the South Tyneside club.

However, the Cumbrians will visit the Hornets’ Green Energy Sports Ground for a pre-season friendly and the two clubs are believed to have agreed to work closely in the future.

Scott departs after a hugely successful year at Hebburn and admits he was emotional to leave a club he helped reach the FA Vase final for the first time in their history last season – a game which is yet to take place.

“It’s been fantastic from the moment I joined and I can’t thank them enough for what they have done for me.

“When I talking about signing for them, they made promises to me and every one of them has been met so I am very grateful to them.

“I have improved massively during my time there because of the players and their qualities on and off the pitch.

“It’s emotional to be leaving them and to be leaving the club as a whole, what we had was special and I look forward to seeing where they go in the future.”
