ROWE HAS THREE IN BUT STILL GUNNING FOR MORE

- By Jon Couch

BIG-SPENDING James Rowe says Chesterfield’s short-term pain will lead to long-term gain after adding three more names to his ever-increasing first-team squad.

The new boss has brought in 12 new signings in less than two months taking the Spireites’ tally of players to 30.

This week, he landed long-term midfield target Gavin Gunning from former club Gloucester City and also added two goalkeepers in the form of former England C stopper Grant Smith and Ipswich Town’s third-string Adam Przybek.

And with the Spireites gradually climbing the table after a disappointing start, Rowe insists he’s not finished yet.

“We are always looking to improve the squad,” Rowe, who also allowed Tyler Denton to join King’s Lynn Town, told the Derbyshire Telegraph. “There will be outgoings but sometimes you have to act on players that become available.

“It is short-term pain for long-term gain. To achieve the objectives we want in the next 18 months to two years there are obviously going to be casualties along the way,”

Big mover of the week was Oxford City forward Jacob Bancroft, who returned to the full-time ranks to join League Two Stevenage.

The 19-year-old made the move to City at the start of the season having been released by Swindon Town last summer.

Woking have added strength at both ends after boss Alan Dowson sealed a double swoop.

Popular defender Moussa Diarra has returned to the club from Havant & Waterlooville, while former Lewes and Oxford United striker Jonte Smith has been added after he was released by Cheltenham.

Boreham Wood have signed former Mansfield centre-back Krystian Pearce, 31, on an 18-month deal after he was let go by Solihull Moors.
