SHOTS EDGE A THRILLER TO GO BACK IN THE MIX

- By Nicole Cho-Yee Josh Rees (Aldershot) Daniel Middleton

ALDERSHOT Town marched into the top ten – just one point off a play-off place – with a third successive win in this seven-goal thriller at Grosvenor Vale.

The lead changed hands no fewer than three times in a frantic, rollercoaster first-half before Danny Searle’s Shots held on to clinch the points.

“Maybe we did not perform as much as we are capable of performing, but we still got the three points,” a relieved Searle said.

“The bottom line is that is what anyone really cares about.” For the Stones, it was a third successive defeat and manager Dean Brennan was left in no doubt the areas which need to be bettered.

“We know where we need to improve; we’re not blind,” he said.

“I think we can see where – we need people to be leaders and stop letting in soft goals.”

Indeed, the Shots took just six minutes to break down the Stones back line – George Fowler’s cross towards the far post dispatched by Joel Nouble.

But the Stones weren’t behind for long, six minutes in fact, after a swift counter attack saw Michael Phillips find Dennon Lewis, who finished in clinical style, cutting inside and firing into the top corner over Shots keeper Mitch Walker.

Galvanised by the goal, the Stones seized the initiative and, on 27 minutes, they had gone in front themselves. Phillips again turned provider, finding

Alex Dyer free in the box, for the midfielder to calmly slot home into the bottom right corner past Walker.

But, back came Aldershot and 11 minutes later parity was restored again as Toby Edser’s corner was fired home by Jermaine Anderson, under the body of Stuart Moore at his second attempt.

And the Shots ensured they went in front by the break, snatching the lead for the second time when Nouble cut back to Chike Kandi, who duly blazed past Moore.
