LATE SHOW DAGGERS IN A STUNNING COMEBACK

DAGENHAM & R 3 KING’S LYNN TN 2

- By Daniel Bennett Andy Eleftheriou (Dagenham & Redbridge) Adrian Quelch

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE came from two goals down to complete a spectacular comeback and secure a vital three points at home to King’s Lynn.

The Linnets had found themselves two goals up at half-time through Alex Kiwomya and Michael Gash but Callum Reynolds got one back before Andy Eleftheriou levelled.

It looked certain to finish all square when Mitch Brundle missed from the spot in added time but moments later he made amends by heading in from a corner.

Daggers looked the better side early on as Sam Deering volleyed over after Angelo Balanta’s effort had deflected into his path.

Reynolds then blazed over from close range after being picked out from a corner before the lively George Saunders smashed wide when given space on the edge of the box.

But it was the away side who took the lead from a well worked goal as Cameron King surged forward on the left to cross for Gash, who cut the ball back to Kiwomya to find the bottom corner.

Dagenham should have been level just moments later when Angelo Balanta latched onto Paul McCallum’s flick on but hit the post when one-on-one with goalkeeper Archie Mair.

And Daryl McMahon’s side were punished by the clinical Linnets who grabbed a second before the break as King’s excellent cross from the right was turned in by Gash from just a couple of yards out.

Mair ensured his side stayed two goals ahead early in the second half when he produced a great stop to deny McCallum’s header from a Saunders corner.

McCallum headed wide from another corner minutes later before missing a glorious chance on 65 minutes, hitting the bar from close range after the ball had broken for him following a scramble.

Lynn had a good chance of their own when Aaron Jones was denied by a great stop at the near post from Elliot Justham but Reynolds grabbed a goal back for Dagenham with just under 20 minutes remaining, heading in off the bar after Eleftheriou’s cross was headed into his path.

Daggers had their equaliser when Eleftheriou fired over the head of Mair from wide on the right-hand side from what looked to be a cross. Substitute Scott Wilson had a glorious chance to grab a third for his side, poking wide from inside the box after seeing his first effort blocked.

Dagenham were then gifted the chance to complete a spectacular comeback in added time after Luke Croll was fouled in the box but Brundle’s low penalty was superbly stopped by Mair.

But moments after missing his penalty, Brundle nodded in a corner at the near post to complete an amazing comeback.
