TIM’S BEES RECEIVE A NEW DOSE OF REALITY

- By David Bloomfield

BELEAGUERED Barnet boss Tim Flowers reaffirmed the need for reinforcements as bottom club Barnet saw their brief resurgence cynically ended by Woking.

The Bees ended an eightmatch losing run with victory over FC Halifax Town in midweek and would have fancied themselves to repeat the trick against a Cards side without a win in seven.

But goals in either half from Jamar Loza and Moussa Diarra ensured the visitors came away with the points, leaving Flowers to rue another bad day at the office.

“That was disappointing certainly, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong for us – like losing Ben Richards-Everton in the warm-up,” he said.

“It looked like a stick-on 0-0, scrappy, windy, with the ball not on the deck much, but we still manage to find a way to concede two ridiculous goals.

“We never penetrated behind them and get them to run back and leg-wise our front three just couldn’t get there today.

“We need to do better, we need some players!”

Barnet, however, could have taken an early lead when Myles Judd’s cross from the right was headed weakly by Anthony Wordsworth into the arms of the Woking keeper Craig Ross.

Wordsworth’s left foot looked Barnet’s most likely route to a goal, either by his long-range shooting or with his guile in midfield.

With almost half an hour gone, Diarra appeared to have opened the scoring when his towering headed was spectacularly cleared off the line by Judd.

But the Cards didn’t have to wait long to celebrate when Loza’s low right-foot shot from distance found the far corner of the net.

Sloppy defending just prior to the interval allowed Xander McBurnie an opportunity for the Bees but keeper Ross reacted swiftly to avert the danger.

The second half saw Barnet’s Scott Loach the busier keeper and, in the 67th minute, Diarra was the first to react when Charlie Cooper’s freekick had been parried on a post to give the visitors a twogoal advantage, which they never looked like relinquishing.

Cards’ assistant manager Ian Dyer said: “I think we deserved the victory, and the 2-0 scoreline was a fair reflection on the game.

“In the first half we were in their final third quite a lot, and perhaps we were a little disappointed that we didn’t get more shots away, but we scored a really good goal from Loza; cutting in from the left is something we have been asking him to do.

“We didn’t want to sit back and invite them onto us and face a late bombardment which made the second goal very important and gave us the cushion to see the game out.

“That was a solid away performance which will give us a lot of confidence going forward.”
