MUSSA ON A MISSION AS MOORS ARE TERRA-ISED

TWO goals from striker Bradley Ash helped fire Weymouth to victory in this seen-goal thriller in the West Midlands.

But it was powerhouse midfielder Omar Mussa who proved the star turn for the Terras as he controlled the centre of the park before hobbling off early in the second half.

By then the game was won – in spite of a late Moors rally – and boss Brian Stock was in no doubt about the impact the 21-year-old had made.

“I thought Mussa looked a £10m player out there today – strong and athletic,” the Weymouth boss admitted.

“The kid can be anything he wants to be. I have not seen many players of his age with the amount of ability and the physique and attributes that he has. He has a really bright future ahead of him and I thought today he was excellent.

“Solihull are a really good side – they pass and they move and they do it so well. We tried to match them when they went to a diamond and then again when their fullbacks were getting into the wide areas. They literally chucked everything at us but we stood strong.”

It took Weymouth just eight minutes to open their tally, skipper Josh McQuoid picking out Josh Leslie-Smith on the right and he drilled his shot past young Moors keeper Marcus Dewhurst.

Ash chalked up his first of the game on 21 minutes, pouncing on a miscued clearance from Sean

Shields’ free-kick before Joe Sbarra reduced the deficit on 38 minutes

Moors rallied briefly with Tyrone Williams forcing a save from Ross Fitzsimons and they reduced the deficit through Sbarra on 38 minutes, Andy Dallas with the assist.

That should have galvanised the hosts but instead, goals either side of the interval left them with a mountain to climb.

Ash netted his second on the stroke of half-time after getting in behind the Moors defence before McQuoid added his name to the scoresheet with an excellent solo effort that had him turning marker Matt Preston inside out.

Sbarra handed the hosts a lifeline when he turned in his second of the game on 70 minutes, prodding home from close range from substitute Justin Donawa’s cross.

And the diminutive midfielder had a chance to complete his hat-trick on 90 minutes only to see his spot kick – awarded following a foul on Jordan Cranston – was pushed onto the bar by Fitzsimons but Dallas tucked away the rebound.

Solihull manager Neal Ardley said: “You can’t concede four goals and expect to win a game of football. They were ruthless with their finishing and nearly every chance they took. There were loads of positives on an attacking front but we defended really poorly.”
