A HAMMER BLOW STUNS SAD MALLETT

- By John Brindley

GETHYN HILL’S header broke the ice as Southern League Taunton Town went goal crazy at hapless Shepton Mallett.

It took the visitors minutes to open the scoring but just a further ten to virtually wrap up the tie as Toby Holmes and a Haill penalty made it 3-0 before the break.

There was no letting up in the second half as Ollie Chamberlain and Holmes netted before a second Taunton spot kick enabled Holmes to complete his hat-trick.

Don McBean and Jared Lewington added further insult to injury although Shepton managed a late consolation as they bowed out 8-1.

Also among the goals were new boys Jersey Bulls who are revelling in their run after bringing the competition to the island after 150 years.

They scored ten on their cup debut and VCD Athletic were dispatched 5-1 before a record crowd.

Frazer Barlow, Sol Solomon with two, Jake Prince and a Luke Campbell pen did the damage.

Poole Town also hit five against Swindon Supermarine after Daniel Bartlett sent them on their way in a 5-0 win.

Ware were 4-0 winners at Colney Heath with Leigh Rose, Kandari Taufee, Liam Hope and Loulight ie Rose on target. And it was comfortable for Carshalton Athletic as Daniel Hector and Dan Bennett added to Lewis White’s goal at Kennington.

Most other ties were close contests with Runcorn Linnets seeing their joy at beating Liversedge 2-0 marred by injury to Alex Downes. Liversedge made public their hopes for a speedy recovery after Ryan Brooke’s brace sent them out.

Jonathan Greening’s Scarborough Athletic were backed by one of the biggest crowds of the day only for James Hooper to round off a 2-0 win for Witton Albion.

Daniel Mason scored twice for Sholing in a 3-1 win at Alton with Stu Green sealing the tie after Matt Graham gave the hosts hope.

Lewis Beale was another two-goal hero as Wimborne Town eased past Blackfield and Langley 3-0. A late equaliser from Rico Clarke-Rowe gave Broadfield United a replay after South Park led through two Adam Aziz strikes. Jordan Darr netted twice for Charnock Richard but it wasn’t enough as Prescot Cables made

of trailing to win 3-2. Lloyd Dean, Stephen Tames and Lewis Buckley scored for the victors.

Pontefract Colleries and Long Eaton United created club history. Colleries equalled their best run with a 3-0 win at Barnoldswick Town with Vaughan Bedford, twice, and Scott Brown on target.

And Long Eaton eased into the next round for the first time in 13 years after Danny Gordon and Jamie Walker helped beat Coleshill Town 2-1.

Ogo Obi and Dwayne Duncan were the goal heroes for Hanwell Town in a 2-0 win at Fleet Town.

Ashley Edenborough’s header earned Highworth Town a replay against Shaftesbury Town while Redhill also came from behind to grab a second chance against Sevenoaks.

Stowmarket Town beat Potters Bar 2-1 and Berkhamsted were beaten 1-0 at Walthamstow.

Jumaane Meggoe struck as Sporting Khalsa knocked out Gainsborough Trinity 2-1 and Kieran Jones did the same as Barking won a replayed tie 3-2 against Ilford. Jordan Butterworth was Mossley’s hero against Newton Aycliffe and Tyrese Osbourne netted for AFC Sudbury at Potton United.
