STONES ARE A RUTHLESS

- By Chris Pratt

THREE goals in the space of six second-half min- utes helped rescue Stockport County from a nightmare first half and take the Hatters one step closer to the National League title.

Wealdstone stunned the near 7,500 crowd at Edgeley Park when first-half goals from Jack Cook and Aaron Henry handed them a deserved two-goal lead at the break.

A penalty from Paddy Madden lit the touchpaper for the comeback with Ryan Johnson and Ash

Palmer netting in quick succession before Antonio Sarcevic made sure of the points in the last minute, sealing an eighth straight league victory.

“We’ve done it in different ways as part of this run we are on,” said boss Dave Challinor. “It is never going to be plain sailing in this division. It tests you in terms of styles of play and philosophies of play.

“Over the course of the run we have found different ways against different opposition and the players take a massive amount of credit for that.”

The Hatters started the game as they had, every game on the unbelievable streak that they have been on. Madden had two volleys and a shot from the sixyard box that David Sesay did well to get in the way of.

It was all County and the feeling was that the result would be predictable. But Wealdstone had other ideas. Centre-back Cook had scored in the last two games and he made it three on 13 minutes. Henry swung his corner in and Cook craned his neck to head past Ben Hinchliffe.

And the Stones did not have to wait long to double their lead. Twenty minutes later, Henry curled a delightful freekick past Hinchliffe on his near post.
