COMEBACK MOORS PULL OFF A NEAT CARDS TRICK

- By Peter Moore

SOLIHULL Moors enhanced their push for the play-offs after coming from behind twice to edge a five-goal thriller at the Laithwaite.

Cards striker Inih Effiong netted a fine brace for the home side but each time Moors responded before Ryan Barnett netted the winner for Neal Ardley’s men.

On the back of three successive wins, Woking where on the front foot straight from kick-off with Nicke Kabamba firing over from distance and Solomon Nwabuokei volleying over from only five yards out after Effiong’s header across the box found the former St. Albans midfielder.

Wave after wave of Cards pressure eventually paid off in the 16th minute following a corner from Max Kretzschmar, the ball dropped to Joe McNerney who turned the ball goalward before Effiong reacted quickest to poke home for his 12th goal of the season.

Slowly but surely the Moors got themselves back into the game and with half time approaching drew level after Harry Boyes half volley from 20 yards out flew into the back of the net for the first goal the Cards had conceded for over 400 minutes.

The visitors continued where they left off before the break and almost took the lead when Craig Ross brilliantly tipped away James Osborne’s goal bound effort.

But it was Woking who would strike next when

Solihull failed to deal with Moussa Diarra’s long ball over the top and there was Effiong who chased the ball down for a simple tap in.

Back came the visitors and they got their just rewards with two goals inside ten minutes to edge in front for the first time in the game. On 62 minutes,

Barnett’s cross was glanced home by Adam Rooney and with the visitors now well on top they nabbed their third goal after Osborne’s long throw caused chaos inside the Woking area. The hosts failed to clear the danger with the ball falling to Barnett to pounce.

Osborne was in the thick of the action again with his vicious shot well saved by Ross.

Despite being under the cosh, the hosts almost drew level late in the game when Johnson’s volley was a whisker away, but Moors held firm to claim a first ever win at Woking.

Boss Ardley said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game, they’ve got new guys who have come in and steadied the ship. They were really well organised, they had a game plan and made it really tough for us and we didn’t have the answers early on in the game.”

Woking caretaker chief Ian Dyer added: “I thought we played well for large parts of the game. I’m so frustrated we didn’t get anything out of the game. I feel a little bit hard done by by that.”
