EAST GRINST’D 0 HASTINGS UTD 4

- Jake Baxter (Chertsey Town) By Brian McCorquodale By Chris Gay ENTERTAINMENT:

THE late kick off due to kit being lost on the Guernsey aeroplane set back the visitors to Alwyns Lane – and they never recovered.

Chertsey Town were always in control with goals arriving throughout the exchange at regular interval with the first coming after 28 minutes with Jake Baxter sweeping the ball home from 20 yards.

The same striker increased the lead 11 minutes later with a glancing header from a deep Andy Crossley free-kick.

■The lead was increased just after the interval with another sweeping strike from the boot of Sam Murphy.

N an important game for both teams at different ends of the table, Hastings got the early advantage when Sam Adams finished a good cross from the right by man-of-thematch Danny Parish.

The early breakthrough put Gary Elphick’s Hastings on the front foot. However, East Grinstead created a great opening when Omar Folkes turned in the box, but his goal-bound shot was superbly blocked by a great last-ditch block by Craig Stone.

Parish ensured Grinstead rued that missed chance when he was allowed too much room and finished across the keeper.

Things went from bad to worse for Grinstead three minutes later when a speculative shot from distance by Sam Hasler should have been dealt with comfortably by Sam Freeman in the Grinstead goal, but

DAN THE MAN: Danny Parish fires in Hasting’s second goal the ball found its way into the far corner. The second half started with Hastings creating a couple of chances, but Grinstead started to gain more of a foothold in the game.

However poor defending on the right allowed Adams space to square the ball to Parish who produced a smart finish.

Playing for pride as the game was long gone, Grinstead had more control, but without really testing Louis Rogers.
