PROMOTION IS WARE IT’S AT!

- By Joe Acklam

PUMPED-UP Paul Halsey is ready for whatever the playoffs can throw at him as he prepares his Ware side for a shot at promotion in to the Isthmian South Central.

The Blues all but wrapped up their top-five spot with a 3-1 win against Colney Heath ensuring that only an unthinkable goal difference swing would deny them.

And boss Halsey is confident that no matter who his team ended up playing in the play-offs, they would be more than a match for them.

“I’m delightedwe’ve got into the play-offs, it’s exactly what the boys have deserved,” Halsey told The NLP.

“Over the season, we’ve been a little bit inconsistent and that is why we aren’t up there with Bedford, but we’ve got a big semi-final, and possible final, ahead of us now.

“Some people say that the team that finished higher up the league should win the play-offs, but I remember teams in the Championship who finished 14 points behind second and still got promoted.

“All of these teams know each other and how we all play really well, so how you set up and how your boys perform on that day is important and we might need a bit a lady luck and also to get to get that result. I set ourselves up to win every game.”

Ware go into the knockout stages having not lost a game since February, and harnessing that momentum will be crucial for their hopes of promotion.

“We’ve kept some clean sheets which has been good because if you look at our goal difference, it’d be a lot more than it is if we didn’t concede three goals against Berkhamsted a few weeks ago,” he added.

“You can take those games and those performances with you into the next game and it’s important that you keep clean sheets and that you take the chances.

“But, we also know that you can’t sit back for one minute just because you’ve got that little bit of a winning streak, we still need to be prepare properly both mentally and physically.”
