REDS BATTLE FOR A POINT

-

AN outstanding defensive performance by Colne was enough to hold Runcorn Linnets to a goalless draw in their quest to win promotion.

In a first half of few chances, Linnets came close after 17 minutes when Ally Brown fired just over the Reds’ bar from a great chance.

But five minutes later Dean Ing blasted over the Linnets bar after Danny Edwards had opened up the home defence

And Ing continued to threaten Runcorn in the second half with some good attacking runs.

A WIND-affected game lit up by two magnificent goals ended with the spoils shared by Trafford and Newcastle Town.

Visiting skipper James Askey volleyed over in the opening minute before Trafford’s Ollie Ford and Matty Barlow went close as the hosts dominated.

Town went ahead slightly against the run of play in the 38th minute with a great 25yard drive into the far corner by Jack Van der Laan.

Trafford piled on the pressure as the game wore on, and equalised in the 83rd

But as the game wore on Linnets grew stronger and forced a series of corners which had the Colne rearguard defending stubbornly and keeper Hakan Burton made a string of superb saves to Deny Linnets.

In the end Colne held on for a well-deserved point. STAR MAN: Prince Haywood (Colne)

ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★ minute when Harrison Bickerton cut in from the right and unleashed a superb 20-yard thunderbolt into the top corner.

Despite incessant late pressure, Trafford could not break down the well-drilled Town defence again.
