KING’S LYNN TOWN manager Tommy Widdrington says he will have to take stock after seeing his side relegated from the National League.

A dramatic draw with Eastleigh wasn’t enough to save the club, with Aldershot beating Notts County 3-1 to ensure they stay up and Lynn go through the trap door with Weymouth and Dover Athletic.

Lynn, who also shared the spoils with Eastleigh following a six-goal thriller in the reverse fixture, have two more games to go but cannot catch Aldershot, who are now 11 points clear in the final safe spot.

The Linnets were ahead five minutes before half-time through Gold Omotayo, but Eastleigh were 2-1 up with quarter of an hour to go.

Lynn valiantly fought back to level through Ross Barrows with a minute left, before Omotayo got his second five minutes into time added on.

It looked like Lynn would finish with a win, but a penalty 11 minutes into time added on denied them a farewell victory at The Walks.

Widdrington said: “It’s one of those things where I have to take stock and have a look.

“I always analyse the staff and myself and see whether we could have done anything differently, but ultimately there was an accountability before I came in the building and that’s why we are where we are.

“I genuinely believe I’ve got as much out of these players as I could, probably more than they thought I could, and made us a lot more competitive.

“I still think there are six teams in this division who are not as good us as and I just wish that I’d been here earlier.

“We came out and played the way we needed to play against this side and thought we created enough chances to be more than 1-0 in front at half-time.

“We’ve let them back into the game and the two goals we’ve conceded were ricks on our part from really good defenders who have been excellent for me since I’ve been here.”

After missing two early opportunities to find the back of the net, it was Omotayo who fired his side in front five minutes before the break.

Errors allowed Tyrone Barnett to equalise and the excellent Vincent Harper to fire the Spitfires in front with 14 minutes left on the clock.

But in a pulsating finish at The Walks, Ross Barrows headed his side level and Omotayo swept his side in front with his second goal deep into stoppage time.

It looked as though the Linnets would go out on a winning note in front of their own fans until Barrows fouled Harper in the box and Michael Kelly stepped up to level matters in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
