JEROME Binnom-Williams snatched a last-gasp levelled to help bottom club Maidstone United bring an end to their nine-match losing run as they fought back to gain a valuable point at Yeovil Town.

Sha’mar Lawson gave the Stones a 20th-minute lead before Alex Fisher climbed off Yeovil’s bench at halftime and turned the tables with a second-half double.

But just when it looked to have won the game for the Glovers, Binnom-Williams popped up to ensure they had to settle for a 14th draw of the season.

Yeovil boss Mark Cooper opted to start with a back three but reverted to a four at the break after struggling to create anything of note in the opening 45 minutes.

Maidstone, without a win in the league since November 26, started strongly, playing with freedom and forced early saves from Grant Smith with Lawson, Binnom-Williams all going close from set-pieces.

But, on 21 minutes, a wonderful team goal gave George Elokobi’s men the lead they deserved. Roarie Deacon and Mamadou Jobe combined well and Jobe’s neat back heel found Lawson in space to place the ball into the bottom corner.

As the half wore on, Yeovil enjoyed plenty of possession but could not get into the box to force any saves out of Stones keeper Dan Barden.

Cooper had seen enough by the break and made two half-time substitutes with Fisher and Chiori Johnson both coming on to try and offer more attacking impetus.

And the changes made a huge impact as, on 67 minutes, Morgan Williams crossed for Fisher to finish beautifully into the top corner.

Then, just two minutes later, Fisher got his second after a great centre from Matt Worthington flashed across the face of goal, and he was attributed with the final finish as him and Johnson both slid in.

It was one-way traffic from then on but the Glovers failed to find a killer third.

And they were duly punished deep into stoppage time when George Fowler’s freekick into the box found the head of Binnom-Williams who powered his effort past Smith to snatch a point.

Cooper believed his side should have wrapped up the points, even though he was disappointed with the first-half performance.

“On the second half performance, we must win the game,” he said. “We wasted 45 minutes and there were some poor individual performances in the first half, but we showed an impetus in the second half and played some really good football.

“We changed to a four but just couldn’t get anything going in the first half. I will take the blame for the horrendous first half, but the boys reacted.

“We have drawn too many but when we get what we want in, that will turn around.”
