ROBINS IN CRISIS BUT NASH IS UNMOVED

- By Mark Carruthers

MARC Nash is determined to remain fully focused on on-field events at North Shields – despite concerns over the club’s future in the Northern Premier League East Division.

The reigning Northern League champions launched a funding appeal to help raise the £50,000 they required to make improvements to bring their Daren Persson Stadium home up to Step 4 standard.

The move to appeal came just weeks after promised funding was withdrawn – but progress has been slow and they still lie significantly short of their target with the deadline of the end of March rapidly approaching.

Another meeting with the Football Association took place earlier this week but Nash and his players are keen to keep striving for results on the pitch, rather than events beyond their control.

“Players have asked questions about what’s going on, that’s what players do and we expect that,” Nash told The NLP.

“It happens, but not during matchday because they are fully focused on what is going on on the pitch. We’ve answered those questions as best we can but we only do that when the time is right and that is not when we are focusing on preparing for a game.

“For myself, the other coaches, and the players,

we are just looking at the next game, that’s how we are operating at the minute. We control what we can control as coaches and players, that’s important for us, that’s all we can do.

“We have to keep doing our job.”

The former Whitley Bay boss insisted the Robins have added to the East Division during their first ever season as a Step 4 club and believes they have added to the league following promotion last year.

“I haven’t spoken to the club about it for a while but it’s always at the back of your mind,” he added.

“We could talk about the rules and punishments forever if we wanted to. It’s a short amount of time for a club to turn things around and I’ve been to other places in the league and if I’m honest, yes, we don’t have a lot of cover here but it’s a tidy ground and compared to some others it’s good.

“I think we’ve added to the league with good football and a strong travelling support too so if they want to get rid of us then so be it, we will take what comes.”
