INCE AT THE DOUBLE TO KEEP CARDS FLYING HIGH

- By Dan Stobbart

ROHAN INCE struck twice in the space of three second-half minutes to keep Woking on track for a third placed finish as Darren Sarll’s Cards came from behind to defeat Dorking Wanderers in the Surrey derby.

Jason Prior’s penalty just past the hour had put Wands in front but a superb strike from Ince within ten minutes levelled the scores.

And the midfield dynamo then bundled home a second from close range just moments later to hand the Cards the points.

“We’ve got a lot of resilience in our team, terrific character, and like the last two games going behind has sparked the team into reacting and we’ve found a way once again,” said a delighted Sarll.

“Rohan’s delivered for us with quality from distance and we’ve got ahead through another set play – it’s hard for teams to get back at us after that with the energy and commitment we show in the latter stages of games.”

Dorking spurned the best chances to go in front during an even opening; Joe Cook and Dan Gallagher working keeper Will Jaaskelainen with headers, the latter forcing a tip-over save before the stopper spread himself well to deny Josh Taylor one-on-one after he was played through by Jimmy Muitt.

The Cards went close before the interval as the debuting Kacper Lopata headed just over the bar and centre-back partner Billy Sass-Davies, dominant in the air all game, nodded into the arms of Dan Lincoln.

After the restart, Dorking knocked on the door and the momentum paid off for Marc White’s men on 64 minutes when Jaaskelainan was guilty of bringing down McShane and Prior stepped up to calmly dink the ball down the middle of goal to make it five goals from his last six matches.

Within ten minutes though, the visitors got themselves back on terms in spectacular fashion; Ince bringing a clearance under control before rifling the ball into the top corner of goal from 30 yards out, right in front of the packed out away stand.

And, just moments later, the midfielder netted his second of the afternoon to put the Cards in front; a corner ball from the left knocked back across goal by Sass-Davies and guided over the line by Ince from close range.

Protecting their lead, the away side kept Dorking pegged back in their own half for much of the remainder of the game, but Wands boss Marc White told The NLP: “I think we’re desperately unlucky today. An absolute wondergoal has proven to be a sucker punch for us and the game has turned from there – that’s football.

“All over the park we were great and the better side for the most part, but it’s about being clinical. You don’t get points for playing well, you have to make it count.”
