INJURED FAN SEES GAME STOPPED

- By Rob Cole

FLINT TOWN UNITED condemned the “appalling behaviour” that saw a fan seriously injured and the Cymru Premier match against Caernarfon Town abandoned.

Crowd trouble saw both sides taken off the pitch with Flint 2-0 ahead before the game was officially called off.

North Wales Police confirmed a man has been taken to Aintree hospital and a 24-hour dispersal order put in place in Flint town centre.

A club statement read: “As a club we utterly condemn the appalling behaviour of a minority of individuals at today’s game. We wish the two people who were injured a speedy and full recovery and would urge anyone with any mobile phone footage of the incidents to contact the police.

“We would like to sincerely thank the paramedics and the club stewards for all their efforts in the immediate aftermath. Both clubs will be fully co-operating with the police to identify those involved. This is a very sad day for everyone connected with Flint Town United.”

Flint had led with two goals in the opening 10 minutes against the Cofis. Jean-Louis Akpro was first on the scoresheet for the home side and then Anthony Stephens doubled the lead.

Bottom of the table Airbus UK Broughton picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Aberystwyth thanks to an Adam Davies penalty 10 minutes into the second half. Nial Flint responded from the spot for the home side four minutes from time to deny the Wingmen a first win of the season.

Bala Town slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Newtown in the Championship Conference, while champions The New Saints handed out a 5-2 defeat to Penybont. Declan McManus scored twice to take his season’s tally to 26 in the league.

Connah’s Quay Nomads were 2-0 winners at Cardiff Met to more or less confirm their status as runners-up. First half goals from Josh Williams and Paul Mendes carried them to victory.

Holywell Town’s bold bid to catch JD Cymru North leaders Colwyn Bay fell at the penultimate hurdle when their proud 25-match unbeaten run was brought to an end by Llandudno Town – Shaun Cavanagah and Marc Williams the men on target.

Holywell drew level the 84th minute with a goal from Luke Wiltshire but couldn’t find any more inspiration. Their 2-1 home defeat handed the title to Colwyn Bay and confirmed them as the runners-up for the season, with Llandudno confirmed in third.

At the other end, Holyhead Hotspur were beaten again, 2-0 by Conwy Borough, to confirm their relegation. Conwy will remain in the league next season, with Penrhyncoch, beaten 2-0 at home by Colwyn Bay, confirmed in the other relegation position.
