SEASON A HIGH
SWINDON SUPERMARINE ended their 30th anniversary season in style with a fine victory over play-off qualifiers Chesham United at the Webbswood Stadium
Needing a mathematical miracle to make the play-offs themselves, the Blue Army started strongly with a fine pass finding its way through to Henry Spalding who rounded standin keeper Lewis Rolfe to net after 15 minutes, giving the home side the perfect start
Within seconds Marine had a penalty after Zack Kotwica was clobbered in the box by a late tackle. Harry Williams stepped up to make it two and he was so close to making it three seconds later, just heading over from a corner.
Then out of the blue a Chesham breakaway saw Shaq HippolytePatrick put away a neat finish past Charlie Searle for 2-1.
Marine were soon back in control just ahead of the break when Jamie Edge nodded home a Spalding inswinging corner.
Within minutes of the second half the points looked secure as Williams grabbed a brace when Spalding’s
cross was headed back into the mixer by Tyrone Duffus and the league top scorer was quickest to react to make it 4-1 to Marine but the Generals never gave up.
Substitute Jordan Edwards grabbed one back in the 72nd minute before a terrific solo run and finish by Omar Rowe three minutes later made it jittery for the hosts.
Their fears were allayed when Williams was too hot to handle and was hauled down in the box for a second spot kick.
Williams converted it himself with five minutes left to seal his hattrick — 34 league goals for the season. He finishes league top scorer along with Moses Emmanuel of Hayes and Yeading.
A terrific win to end what has been a terrific season for Marine.
The best tribute to the 30th anniversary was the highest ever finish to a league season for the club, led by manager Lee Spalding and assistant Charlie Griffin, as they claimed sixth place.
