BOREHAM WOOD boss Luke Garrard hailed his team’s qualification for the National League play-offs as an ‘incredible achievement’.

Garrard told The NLP: “It’s an incredible achievement for a club our size to get to the play-offs and finish sixth in the league.

“We won the game by hook or by crook and did enough to get the job done. Although I’m proud of what we’ve done, the focus now shifts to Barnet away on Tuesday night.”

Victory over already relegated Yeovil Town ensured a sixth place finish and a play-off spot in the Vanarama National League for the third time in six seasons. A 25th-minute goal from Tyrone Marsh was the difference between the sides.

In a tight game, it was the home side that came out of the blocks and dominated possession early on against a seemingly demoralised Glovers side but were unable to get past the Yeovil defence.

It was the visitors who registered the first shot on goal when Malachi Linton’s free-kick was deflected wide on 13 minutes. This lifted the Glovers and they started to have more possession.

Former Boreham Wood loan player Charlie Cooper fired just wide following a Jordan Young corner on 18 minutes. The home side broke the deadlock when Marsh produced a bullet header from a Chris Bush cross to settle their nerves.

The hosts, smelling blood, were now in the ascendancy again. Four minutes later Bush went close to adding to the hosts’ lead following a Zak Brunt cross. For the rest of the first half, Boreham Wood always looked likely to extend their lead but never did as they struggled to break down a resolute defence. On 43 minutes, the visitors went close when following some good interplay between Zanda Siziba and Miguel Freckleton, Siziba fired just wide.

Buoyed by their away support, the Glovers came out for the second half, in their last game of what has been a dreadful season, with renewed vigour and nearly equalised soon afterwards.

Chiori Johnson’s longrange effort was well saved by Nathan Ashmore in the Wood goal. On the hour, Cooper tried his luck from distance with an excellent dipping shot, but it went just over.

Yeovil should have levelled seven minutes later when Reo Griffiths was in on goal, but his tame effort was easily gathered by Ashmore.

For the rest of the game, the visitors enjoyed more possession but failed to break down a stubborn defence. The hosts were happy to defend and preserve energy for the play-off campaign.
