NEXT STOP...TO THE VERY TOP!

- By Jon Couch

‘NEXT stop, to the Premier League!” Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joined Wrexham’s triumphant open-top bus parade around the city – and then targeted a fast-track route to the very top.

Thousands of fans took to the streets on Tuesday evening to celebrate the Red Dragons winning the National League and securing promotion back to the Football League after a gruelling 15 year absence with a record 111-point campaign.

Throughout the day, thousands of fans descended on the Welsh city’s Town Hill awaiting a glimpse of the victory parade.

Co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney joined Wrexham’s promotion-winning women’s team in one of three buses with Phil Parkinson’s men’s squad and friends and family aboard the others.

They left the club’s Racecourse Ground at a delayed time of about 6.15pm, due to the sheer numbers, and made their way along the 3.5-mile route, sounding their horns and greeted by a sea of red and white shirts, banners, scarves and flags.

Asked if the club could reach the Premier League, a clearly emotional Reynolds said it was “100%” possible.

“Of course our goal is to get to the Premier League – why wouldn’t it be,” he beamed. “If we can do that. Whether it takes five years, whether it takes 20 years, that’s the goal, that’s the mission.”

After the parade, Wrexham’s heroes jetted out to Las Vegas to continue the celebration with “a monster party” waiting for them in Sin City.

Parkinson’s men will then return to the States to play in a series of marquee friendlies including with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea.
