GLOVERS SUFFER AN UGG-LY BREAK-UP

- By Neil Harvey

DISMAYED Yeovil Town supporters are fearing for the future of the Glovers after propective owner Matt Uggla revealed that his takeover attempt had collapsed.

Uggla, who heads the SU Glovers consortium, which also includes former England rugby ace Paul Sackey, has been assuring supporters for the last two months that a deal to purchase the club would be concluded imminently..

But, this week, local businessman Uggla revealed that he has now walked away from Huish Park, leaving the relegated club in limbo both on and off the field.

“We really tried our best to get this deal done but it wasn’t to be,” Uggla wrote on Twitter.

“Just want to thank all the fans who stood by us through this whole process and were so kind and welcoming.

“We wish you guys all the best and we will definitely watch from afar and wish the club success. Glovers for life.”

The club are yet to comment but the Glovers Trust, who have called for an emergency meeting at the club, responded by saying: “The Trust are disappointed to learn of SU Glovers’ decision to abandon their takeover of the club. This news, alongside the late payment of staff wages, further demonstrates the complete lack of leadership, interest and accountability from the club’s ownership.

“The Glovers Trust urge the remaining directors to act immediately and decisively to aid the survival of the football club.“

The news came just days after it had emerged last Friday that the staff at Yeovil had not been paid on time, although this was resolved on Tuesday of this week.

Yeovil were relegated from the National League this season, just nine years after falling out of the Championship.
