SUCCESS STILL SO SPECIAL FOR JAY

- By Matt Badcock

JAY HARRIS says seeing how much Warrington Town’s success means to the club makes it even more special.

The 36-year-old midfielder won promotion to the EFL with Tranmere Rovers and was a mainstay in Wrexham’s midfield for many years, including when they lifted the FA Trophy.

And he’s been enjoying it just as much with the Yellows under boss Mark Beesley and his assistant Dave Raven.

“It’s a massive achievement for the club,” Harris told The NLP. “Because I am close to the chairman and his wife, you see how much it actually means to the people.

“The success is great for the players and some lads who haven’t done it. But when you see that, and that it means so much to people, it’s that little more special.

“Bees and Dave (Raven) and the players have done unbelievable. From top to bottom we deserve it, this year more than any.

“It shows the character, one, of the lads and the recruitment. But it also shows the belief Bees had in us. To stick with 95 per cent of the squad and go again – highest points tally, highest achievement. The credit can’t lie far from Toby, Bees and Dave for putting all that together.

“Promotions take hard work, the right players – we’ve got that together and we didn’t change much. It shows sometimes it doesn’t need ripping apart. It’s just, ‘Let’s go again’, and it’s shown this year.”

Harris admits he misses full-time football but says he’s loving passing advice on to the younger players – even if boss Beesley has to keep the reins on at times.

“I know my own body and what I can and can’t do,” he said. “Obviously I’m not what I used to be and that’s half the battle with me as I still feel like I can play like I did when I was 21 – even if I can’t!

“Bees and Dave understand what the body needs, sometimes they take the decision out of my hands.

“They’ve pulled me out of certain games and got the best out of me by, at certain times, giving me a rest.

“I miss being full-time but I still love every minute of it and this promotion means everything.”
