SCUNNY’S SPREE SIGN OF INTENT

- By Chris Dunlavy

NEW Scunthorpe midfielder Michael Clunan believes this month’s transfer spree shows the club’s intention.

Scunny were relegated to National North this season, just 12 months after dropping out of the Football League in financial disarray.

But Clunan’s arrival on Monday was their seventh signing of an eye-opening month.

Striker Danny Whitehall and left back Michael Kelly have joined from Eastleigh, with Will Evans signed from National League play-off semi-finalists Boreham Wood and Ross Fitzsimons from Chesterfield.

Clunan captained King’s Lynn to a second-placed finish in National North and said: “This is a big football club and it belongs a lot higher than National League North.

“There are some top players coming in with good experience, and good quality which I think shows the intent of the club.”

Meanwhile, the club has said there is “no need for concern” amid a dispute between new owner David Hilton and former owner Peter Swann, who owns the freehold on their Glanford Park home.

Last week Scunthorpe said it had instructed barristers after it was given notice to pay Swann £3m or quit the stadium by May 24.

That deadline was missed, with signs subsequently appearing on the gates of warning that any attempt to enter the property represented a criminal act.

A statement released by the club said: “The club currently hold a lease for Glanford Park and have a legal right to operate from the premises. The club have not changed any locks and will remain at the property for the

foreseeable future.”
