RELENTLESS leaders Real Bedford

again showed their credential­s with a late surge to win 3-1 at FC Romania.

The visitors had trailed to an early goal until winger Josh Setchell converted a Mo Ahmed on the stroke of half-time. That was how it stayed until 12 minutes from the end when a Joe Evans tap-in put Real on course for a 17th victory in 19 league matches, a result that was wrapped up when Lewis Burgess met a Ben Stevens corner seven minutes from the end.

Nearest challenger­s Milton Keynes Irish recorded a handsome 4-1 win at Baldock Town to keep hanging on to Real’s coattails and Colney Heath made it three wins in a row by beating Biggleswad­e United 2-1.

The hosts had been on top but took until late in the first half to break the deadlock through Ollie Lawford’s curling shot. Markel Cousins levelled eight minutes into the second half for United but was then sent off for two bookings and the 10 men missed out on a point when George Sippetts slid in with the winner with eight minutes left.

All four goals came from the spot as Leverstock Green won 3-1 at rock bottom Sawbridgew­orth Town, while Harrison Rookard won it as Cockfoster­s beat Harpenden Town 1-0.

Elsewhere, Stansted saw off Arlesey Town 3-1, London Lions beat Aylesbury Vale Dynamos 5-2 and Tring Athletic

remain league leaders but they needed a last-minute equaliser to snatch a point at home to Stanway Rovers.

Joe Debell gave Stanway the lead after 80 minutes but Keanu Hill levelled matters in the 90th minute.

A thriller at Halstead saw Town come from 2–0 and 3–1 down to beat Takeley

4–3. Kevin Yeboah and Keiran Southgate gave Takeley a two-goal half-time cushion before Kane Gilbert scored after 50 minutes.

Glenn O’Hanlon made it 3–1 after 58 minutes, but Jake Brown replied 60 seconds later. Alfie Cleal, equalised with 12 minutes remaining, and Matt Coppen’s 85th-minute goal won it for the Humbugs, despite Takeley’s hunt for an equaliser.

West Essex dominated at Frenford,

winning 4–0 with goals from Zak Oliver, Denzel Effah and a Ruben Bartlett-Antwi second-half double.

Romford won 3–1 at FC Clacton as Finley Dorrell’s 31st-minute opener was cancelled out by Clacton’s Mahmoud Igwebuike two minutes later. Amaree Robinson-Jones restored Romford’s lead after 63 minutes and Malaki Toussaint clinched the win three minutes from time.

Joe Appiah’s double and one from Daniel Izekor helped Newham beat Coggeshall Town 3–1 while Harry Mann rescued a point for Little Oakley at Barking in the 98th minute after Sam Shaban had opened the scoring.

EASTERN COUNTIES LEAGUE

MILDENHALL TOWN extended their lead at the top of the table to four points after a 2-1 away win against Ely City on Saturday.

The visitors scored twice within an eight-minute spell in the closing stages with an own goal and a Jarid Robson strike proving to be decisive.

Second-placed Newmarket Town lost ground to leaders Mildenhall after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Downham Town in seventh spot. Alistair Conway and Jacob Mingay were both on target for the hosts but a late Downham equaliser denied them all three points.

Nathan Stone, Rob Turner and Natheniel Jamba were all on the score sheet for third-placed Harleston Town as they ran out 3-0 winners away to struggling Long Melford. The result means Melford have yet to win a league game this season, having lost 15 of their 16 games played.

Elsewhere, Shaun Avis netted twice for Thetford Town as they climbed up to sixth after an impressive 5-1 away win over ten-man Lakenheath.

Colby Wood’s second half strike handed Heacham a 1-0 home win over Woodbridge Town and there was a big 5-1 victory for fifth-placed hosts Dereham Town over Hadleigh United.

Brantham Athletic suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat away to Mulbarton Wanderers and the day’s other game saw Sheringham beat Kirkley & Pakefield 5-3.

THE MEETING of the league’s top two ended in a 2-2 draw as leaders

Faversham Town rescued a late point at

Glebe.

Keiron Campbell gave Faversham a half-time lead but Marcel McDonald levelled midway through the second half.

Jason Barton’s goal looked like taking Glebe to top spot but Warren Mfula levelled in the 90th minute.

Whitstable Town missed the chance to make up ground after a 4-2 defeat at Punjab United, with Wayne Bushell, Callum Stringer, Cruis Nyadzayo and Jack Hopkins all on target for the hosts.

Bearsted ended Erith Town’s 11 match unbeaten run despite twice losing the lead at Honey Lane. Goals from Joel Wakefield and Eniola Hassan were wiped out by Ladic Melconian and Harry Taylor before Will Johnson-Cole’s penalty earned the Bears a 3-2 win.

Bottom side Kennington came from 0-2 down to claim their second league win, beating Tunbridge Wells 4-3 with Ryan Philpott scoring twice.

Twins Tola and Wade Odedoyin both scored for Holmesdale as they beat Lordswood 4-2 at Oakley Road and Deal Town kept up their promotion push as Rory Smith and Dami Oni scored in a 2-0 win at Rusthall, while Richard Atkins’ goal gave Hollands & Blair a narrow 1-0 win at home to Stansfeld.

Elsewhere, VCD Athletic beat Snodland Town 1-0 and Sutton Athletic beat

Welling Town 2-1 at home.

Newhaven are up to second after a crushing 6-2 home win over Midhurst & Easebourne. Lee Robinson grabbed a brace for the home side with Robert Malila, Ryan Warwick, Alfie Rogers and Ian Robinson also on the score sheet.

Hassocks dropped to third after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat away to Lingfield with Jay Simpson scoring the only goal for the hosts. The result means Hassocks are now three points behind leaders Crowboroug­h and have played two games more than the top placed side.

Elsewhere, Cam Dobell, Liam Benson, Lewis Finney and Josh Spinks were all on target for Haywards Heath Town as they recorded an impressive 4-1 win at home to Crawley Down Gatwick.

Sixth-placed Eastbourne Town ran out 1-0 winners at home to Steyning Town thanks to a Tom Vickers penalty and there was a 3-2 away success for Horsham YMCA at struggling AFC Uckfield Town.

SHAFTESBUR­Y are seven points clear at the top of the table after a 3-1 home win against Hamble Club.

Nathan Walker put the hosts ahead at Cockrams but their lead was shortlived, Shaftesbur­y regaining the lead through their talisman Brett Pitman and the points were sealed in the first-half thanks to Pitman again with an assist from Greg Peel.

Baffins Milton Rovers recorded an astonishin­g 8-0 win away at Christchur­ch with Danny Burroughs putting Baffins ahead after just two minutes.

Dillon North made it two for the visitors and Harvey Wellham sent them in 3-0 up at half-time. A fourth goal followed thanks to Danny Burroughs with his second. Tyrhys Lukonyomoi scored the fifth and the same man made it six. Kelvin Robinson weighed in with number seven in Dorset and Robinson wrapped up his brace and the scoring with the eighth.

AFC Stoneham kept up the pressure on Shaftesbur­y with a 3-0 away win at

Petersfiel­d Town, Lewis Nagle netting the first goal for the Purps at Love Lane.

Andover New Street won 3-0 at home to Sherborne Town. Shane Lock put the hosts ahead on 20 minutes, Layton Tulk made it 2-0 and Michael Davis bagged theor third and final goal.

Elsewhere, Lymington Town got their second point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemout­h Poppies AND Portland United travelled to the Isle-of-Wight and suffered a 4-2 reverse at Cowes Sports.

WESTERN LEAGUE ■

HELSTON ATHLETIC threw down the gauntlet to their Western League title rivals with a 9-1 demolition of Welton Rovers.

Rikki Shepherd fired in the first of his treble with Curtis Damerell, Tom Payne and Jacob Smith making it four by halftime. Shepherd got another two, with Kai Cornish adding a brace and Dave Barker rounding off a rout that was especially welcome with Helston’s three closest chasers all winning as well.

Second-placed Clevedon Town left it late, Syd Camper heading in the winner a minute past the 90 to finally break the deadlock in a 1-0 win at Shepton Mallet.

It was Camper’s 50th goal for Clevedon and came from Freddie King’s free-kick.

Bridgwater United had climbed up to second on Friday night courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Street. Jack Thorne plundered the second of two goals late in the first half to send the majority of a healthy crowd of 414 home happy.

Buckland Athletic maintained fourth spot thanks to Jarad Lewington’s double and another from Ryan Bush in a 3-1 home victory over Oldland Abbotonian­s.

Falmouth Town battled to a 2-1 home win over lowly Saltash United, while there was a ding-dong clash at Nailsea & Tickenham who drew 3-3 with Ilfracombe Town.

Lloyd Mills was at the double for the hosts with Luke Osgood also on the score sheet but Town bagged a share of the spoils through Dan Wilson, Blake Shapland and Jack Magarotto.

A JAKE QUICK goal earned Axminster Town a 1-0 win away to Premier East leaders Ivybridge Town in the Walter C Parson Cup – and they will now play either Elburton Villa or Teignmouth

at home in the quarter-final.

Crediton United, second in Premier East, won 4-0 at bottom club Dartmouth

with Shay Corrick bagging a brace and Dave Lee and Kieren Knight one each.

Callum Noyce scored four times and Toby Pullman twice as Newton Abbot Spurs came from behind to win 6-3 at Torridgesi­de.

Second-placed Premier West St Austell are now just six points behind longtime leaders Liskeard Athletic following their 4-0 win at Penzance.

Third-placed Wendron United went down 1-0 at Callington Town who netted via Taran Goodright while Jedd Peschke scored for hosts Holsworthy in their 1-0 win over Dobwalls.
