TIME TO SPREAD FESTIVE CHEER

- By Neil Harvey

NON-LEAGUE clubs have been spreading the Christmas cheer with the annual pilgrimage to local hospitals and good causes.

Oldham Athletic boss Micky Mellon and his assistant Gary Brabin led a visit to the children’s ward at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Latics players Liam Hogan, Dan Gardner, Hallam Hope and Charlie Raglan were on hand to dish out presents to children.

National League Aldershot Town have had a busy few weeks with their FA Cup second round replay win at Stockport County sealing a third round trip to West Brom in January.

The Shots visited both Royal Surrey Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital to hand out gifts.

Woking players and management raised more than £1,100 with bucket collections to buy presents for their annual trip to children’s wards at St Peters and the Royal Surrey County Hospitals.

They also gave out free family tickets for upcoming fixtures at their Kingfield home.

National League Kidderminster Harriers visited Worcestershire Royal Hospital children’s ward.

National League South Welling United delivered presents donated by the Welling United Supporters Association to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“It’s a really difficult time for them and we’ve done just a small thing to put smiles on faces,” manager Danny Bloor said.

On Boxing Day, Step 3 Harrow Borough are supporting local homeless charity, Firm Foundation.

Boro are asking for donations of winter clothing essentials and toiletries that can be dropped at the ground when they face rivals Hendon on Tuesday.

The club are also raising money for Tanglewood Club, who provide leisure activities for people with disabilities in their main hall.

James Clouting, Harrow’s community outreach lead, said: “Last year, supporters were very generous with their donations to Firm Foundation and the Hendon game is a particularly apt one to raise funds for Tanglewood Club as they were very kind and supportive during the time they ground shared with us.”
