SOARING EAGLES HALTED IN THEIR FLIGHT

- By Neil Harvey

BEDFORD Town stretched their lead at the top of the Division One Central table to three points, even though they were held to a Boxing Day draw by hosts Biggleswade FC.

Ryan Blake and Carl Mensah had twice fired the Eagles into the lead, only for Rio Martucci Bedingfield and Alex Marsh, in the 90th minute, to deny them all three points. Thankfully for them, however, second-place North Leigh were unable to take advantage as they went down to a shock 3-0 defeat at Cirencester Town. George Peare and Felix Miles put the Centurions in control before Nicholas Peare completed the scoring to send Cirencester up to fourth. Biggleswade Town also failed to capitalise on the leaders being held by their town neighbours after they played out a 3-3 draw with Stotfold, for who Henry Smee scored a fine hat-trick. A single-goal from Liam Dulson give Ware a win against Hertford Town in front of just over 700 spectators, while Kings Langley came home from Aylesbury United with a 2-1 success thanks to Hugo Odogwu-Atkinson’s late winner. Kidlington beat Thame United 2-1 thanks to first half strikes from Felipe Bogo Barcelos and Sam Jenkin, while AFC Dunstable and Leighton Town played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Charlie Pattison and Luke Pyman both scoring twice for Leighton, who hit back from 2-0 and 3-1 down at one stage to climb to sixth. Barton Rovers and Kempston Rovers played out a 2-2 draw, while, on Wednesday, Welwyn Garden City won 4-1 at Waltham Abbey with Bailey Stevenson netting twice.
