MURRAY’S MINT FOR BOROUGH

- By Matt Badcock NLP.

ADAM MURRAY says he simply couldn’t resist the challenge at Eastbourne Borough.

The 42-year-old, who took AFC Fylde to the National League North title last season before leaving in October, has replaced Mark Beard at the National League club’s helm.

Sports switched to a full-time model in the summer following the takeover by businessman Simon Leslie.

Results have been hard to come by with ex-West Brom and Besiktas assistant Murray taking the club over in the relegation zone.

But the former Mansfield Town midfielder, who has been assistant manager at Cheltenham Town since leaving Fylde, is up for the fight.

“It was a big decision to be honest,” Murray, who was in the dug-out for yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Torquay United, said.

“I’d gone in to help out Darrell Clarke at Cheltenham and that was going really well. Then this came out of the blue.

“I had a good chat with Simon, the owner, and he’s got a real passion and real vision for what he wants to do.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, some things to put in place and a few changes. I just like a challenge! I’m not very good at sitting in a comfort zone.

“I enjoyed the challenge when I went into Fylde.

“Maybe it was a little bit of a different scenario where they weren’t winning but were expected to, so it was a different pressure.

“But, in terms of having to win games, it’s the same mission. The challenge is good. Obviously it’s trying to stabilise and put things in place this season and, next season, I want this team to challenge.”
