NEWHAVEN moved a point clear at the top after securing a 1-1 draw away to Shoreham on Saturday.

Curtis Gaylor had put the hosts ahead but Alfie Rogers levelled from the spot just before half-time. Newhaven’s closest title rivals, Crowboroug­h Athletic, saw their match away to Midhurst & Easebourne postponed due to a waterlogge­d pitch.

Mike Williamson and Pat Harding were both scored for third-placed Hassocks, who are now just four points off the top after securing a 2-0 away victory over AFC Varndeania­ns.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Peacehaven & Telscombe drew 1-1 at home to fifth-placed Steyning Town with Eman Osei-Asomah’s equaliser rescuing a point for the home side.

Liam Benson, Hayden Skerry and Elliott Bresciani were all on target for sixth-placed Haywards Heath Town

as they beat bottom side Saltdean United 3-1 at home and Alfie Headland and Max Thompson were Eastbourne United Associatio­n’s goal scorers in a 2-1 away win at Horsham YMCA.

Jack Shonk’s late goal rescued a point for Bexhill United as they drew 1-1 away to Lingfield and Marlon Pinder and Kaiden Hummerston were Loxwood’s scorers as they won 2-1 away at Eastbourne Town.

Saturday’s wet weather saw two other games postponed, AFC Uckfield Town’s home game against Pagham and Crawley Down Gatwick’s trip to face Little Common.
