KYLE HAS A BOSS’ ROLE IN STORER

- By Ben Pitkeathly

HOMETOWN favourite Kyle Storer says it’s an ‘honour’ to be handed his first managerial role at Nuneaton Borough, but is expecting a ‘rollercoaster ride’ of emotions.

Former assistant/player boss Storer takes over the hotseat at the crisis club following the departure of Jimmy Ginnelly.

Boro are currently up for sale and groundsharing at Barwell FC having been kicked out of their Liberty Way stadium.

And their unlikely promotion charge has also hit the buffers after five games without a win in Southern League Premier Central.

But after Ginnelly opted to step down last week – taking his final game against Hitchin – former Solihull Moors midfielder Storer has been placed in charge.

“It will be an honour to represent this club as their player-manager, with support from the club and especially the fans,” he said.

“The plan was always to go into management and especially with the Boro.

“It was no secret that this was the plan from Jimmy and myself, maybe a lot sooner than imagined and not in the circumstances we currently find ourselves in.

“It is exciting, nerve-wracking and going to be very challenging, but you know me, I am never one to back out of a challenge.

“I know how good this club can be and how big of an impact we can have, so let us always stick together and get the club bouncing again.

“I am looking forward to the rollercoaster journey.”

Storer, however, will have to plan for life without three key players who left Nuneaton this week for pastures new.

Club captain Scott McManus and former Premier League striker Leroy Lita made the move to Coalville Town, while forward Matt Stenson joined AFC Telford United.

McManus, who lifted the FA Trophy with FC Halifax Town in 2016, returns to the Ravens after signing for Nuneaton in December 2020 following a break from football.

There, he joins former Reading and Bristol City striker Lita, who joined his 21st club at the age of 39, while Stenson brings an end to his 18-month Boro stint.
