LUCKY DANIELS LEAVE IT LATE

IT was honours even at a cold Zeeco between two play-off hopefuls, with the draw being the fair result at the end of the day.

Stamford started the game strong and created a number of early chances. A Connor Bartle corner fell kindly to Tendai Chitiza, but his snapshot was straight at Adam Harrison.

The Daniels took the lead in the 10th minute when the ball cannoned off a defender nicely into Chitiza’s path. Adriel George caught him with a late challenge and the penalty was given, with Rob Morgan sending Harrison the wrong way to roll the ball in.

Aram Soleman showed his pace but could only shoot wide from distance. Redditch were given their own penalty when Michael Armstrong was adjudged to have fouled Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton. Reece Flanagan smashed the spot kick high into Michael Duggan’s net.

Stamford looked a little rattled but created a chance for Chitza, whose shot took a massive deflection straight Harrison’s gloves.

Redditch took the lead through a free kick deep into the far post. Ryan Wollacott got a head to it and somehow managed to loop the ball over everyone from a tight angle.

Stamford regrouped after the break and pushed for an equaliser. Jon Challinor with a precise cross but Will Glennon could only head wide.

Tom Siddons fired over when well placed, and a goal mouth scramble saw Jack Duffy and Lee Shaw have efforts blocked.

Redditch had good efforts from Jaiden White and Alex Cameron but both were narrowly wide.

Stamford left it late to equalise. Billy Bennett’s corner caused a massive fiasco in the Redditch box and Will Glennon was on hand to smash the ball in off the underside of the bar in the 90th minute.

No fewer than 10 minutes were added on after the 90. Stamford could have won it into

Bennett’s sublime cross was met by a flying header from Shaw that skipped just over the bar.

After the match Stamford boss Graham Drury said: “I felt we deserved something out of the match after the way we played in the second half. We fought all the way to the final minute and got a deserved equaliser for the point.”

Drury added that his counterpar­t and that his counterpar­t Matt Clarke would agree that a point result.
