HIGHWORTH GO TO TOWN ON DALERS

- By Ben Goddard

TWO Luke Whelan goals within three second half minutes sent Highworth

Town into the FA Vase fifth round for the first time in nine years with a 3-1 victory at Holmesdale.

The Hellenic Premier visitors had the game’s opening chance on 12 minutes when Michael Miller’s crosses found the head of Leon Morrison whose effort sailed just wide.

Five minutes later the visitors went close again as Connor Mattimore provided an inviting cross for Rob Dean, but he just failed to connect with the ball.

Highworth took the lead on 49 minutes when Rhys Wells’ long ball forward was flicked on by Sol Pryce into the path of Whelan who beat the last defender before netting in off the post.

Whelan doubled his side’s goal tally two minutes later to put his side into the driving seat.

Sam Bayford’s goal in reply could have set up a grandstand finish before Leon Morrison fired home a third Highworth goal from range.

Hallam made club history by reaching the last 16 for first time following a 3-1 victory against Silsden, to send a vocal home crowd home happy.

However, it was Silsden who took a 50th minute lead when a mistake for the hosts allowed Ellis Hudson in to score.

Iren Wilson headed the visitors level before Basile Zottos put the hosts ahead three minutes later. Wilson then completed the win with his second.

Essex Senior League side Tilbury also created club history by reaching the fifth round for the first time as they completed a 1-0 win against Walsham Le Willows.

Northern Counties East side Emley booked their place in the last-16 for the first time since 1990 following a 3-0 home victory against Charnock Richard.

Ruben Jerome opened the scoring a minute into the second half before Jack Cowgill doubled their lead. Nathan Curtis capped the performance with a powerful third. Western League side Falmouth Town AFC are also in the fifth-round hat following a 2-0 win against Hartpury University.

Falmouth took the lead from the spot with just nine minutes on the clock before completing the victory with a second goal in the second half.

Jersey Bulls also progressed on penalties after substitute Ruben Mendes equalised late on during a 1-1 draw against Hamworthy Recreation.

The Bulls started on the front foot and Luke Campbell sent an inviting ball for Jonny Le Quesne, who was denied by an alert goalkeeper.

At the opposite end Frank Rosenwald drove at the hosts’ defence but his effort from 25 yards out flew over the crossbar.

Lorne Bickley was next to test the Hamworthy goal but sent his effort inches wide of the target.

Hamworthy took a 50th minute lead after a Tyler Rudd cross was dropped by the goalkeeper into the path of Chris Long.

Jersey pushed for an equaliser and Lorne Bickley found his way through on goal before losing balance at the vital moment and firing over.

The Bulls introduced Mendes after a year out with an ACL injury and with four minutes remaining he netted, sending the tie to penalties.

Fittingly it was Mendes who also scored the winning penalty as Jersey Bulls progressed into the next round.

Lincoln United also booked their place in the fifth round on penalties after a 1-1 draw at South Liverpool.

The Whites went through after Jack McMenemy equalised following an own goal opener for South Liverpool.
