FIVE-STAR MACC ARE ALL WHITE

- By Kallum Bates

AFIVE-STAR performance from Macclesfield saw them produce one of the most emphatic of cup shocks of the day to progress to the last 16 of the Isuzu FA Trophy.

The Silkmen put the National League Wands to the sword with Tunde Owolabi scoring twice and Alex Curran, Paul Dawson and Luke Duffy also on target.

And Marc White’s miserable afternoon was compounded when striker Luke Moore was sent off with 20 minutes left to play after lashing out at Drew Baker.

The NPL Premier high-flyers started on the front foot, and should have taken the lead after 17 minutes when Kane Drummond had his effort saved on the line by Dorking keeper Harrison Male.

But Alex Bruce’s men weren’t to be denied for long and they finally made the most of their early dominance on 27 minutes when Owolabi beat Male at his near post after a brilliant run on the left hand side.

Things went from bad to worse for Dorking just before the break when Dan Gallagher fouled Drummond in the box. Curran stepped up to take the penalty, saw his kick saved by Male but reacted quickest to tuck home the rebound.

Wands boss White respe-onded at the break by bringing on George Francomb for Dan Pybus, but it was Macclesfield who remained on the front foot into the restart.

And on the hour, it was 3-0 when Owolabi and Drummond linked up once again with the latter clinically heading home.

By now, Macc were in free flow and four minutes later it was 4-0 – John Rooney’s corner swung into the box and Dawson powered his header past Male.

Dorking’s frustrations were plain to see with substitute Luke Moore receiving his marching orders after clashing with Baker.

And the game was sealed just a few minutes later with the best goal of the afternoon – Duffy receiving the ball on the left and curled the ball into the top corner.

Two-time winners as Macclesfield Town, the Silkmen are one of the lowest ranked teams left in the competition, but they will fear no one after beating Alfreton, Curzon Ashton and now Dorking on their way to the last 16.

Skilmen boss Bruce said: “I was absolutely delighted with them. It was a complete performance.

I thought we controlled the game. On the whole we totally dominated the game. Played on the front foot and scored some great goals.”
