BILLY HAS THE SASS IN WOOD REVIVAL!

- By Machel Hewitt STAR MAN: Chris Bush (Boreham Wood) ATT: 2,744 ENTERTAINMENT: REFEREE: James Oldham

IT ENDED honours even at Hayes Lane as Bromley and Boreham Wood played out an entertaining draw – a result that perhaps suited neither side but was a fair reflection of the endeavour on show.

A first-half header from Billy Sass-Davies gave Wood the lead but that was immediately cancelled out by Corey Whitely’s long range drive.

In the second half it was roles reversed as Callum Reynolds’ close range effort gave Bromley the lead but Kwesi Appiah’s late header ensured the Wood returned back to Hertfordshire with a share of the spoils. “We should have won the game but you cant give a side like Boreham Wood two free headers and expect to win games,” a frustrated Ravens boss Andy Woodman expressed. “They’re a streetwise side and we gave them too much of a helping hand. That said we can’t win every game and the point means we are unbeaten in eight.”

It was Wood who started the better and Tyrone Marsh should perhaps have scored when Enrico Sousa’s enterprising run freed the striker but he skied his effort over the bar when it seemed easier to hit the target.

Marsh again went close midway through the first half. Chris Bush’s long throw caused disarray in the Bromley penalty area and Marsh reacted quickest but his effort rebounded off the crossbar.

But Wood eventually got the goal their play deserved on 27 minutes when Sass-Davies headed home from Sousa’s corner. However, the lead barely lasted 60 seconds as Whitely’s rasping drive from 25 yards left Nathan Ashmore with no chance.

Sousa continued to pose a threat every time he got on the ball and his angle drive from

just inside the 18-yard box drew a smart parried save from Grant Smith.

The Ravens came out of the traps much better in the second 45 and Josh Passley missed a golden opportunity to give the home side the lead. Running on to Alex Kirk’s through ball, Passley rolled the ball beyond Ashmore but also the far post.

But Bromley were to make their pressure count on the hour mark. Olufela Olomola’s cross wasn’t dealt with and Reynolds reacted quickest to swivel and shoot past Ashmore.

Lee Ndlovu nearly equalised immediately doing well to work space before drawing a fine save from Smith.

But with only one goal in it, Wood were always in with a chance and they got their equaliser with three minutes to play – Femi Ilesanmi’s teasing cross met by Appiah, who headed over Smith and into the far corner of the net.

Wood manager, Luke Garrard felt the point was no more than his side deserved, adding: “We had a lot of chances in the first half which was frustrating that we didn’t score more but if you had asked me before the match if I’d take a point at Bromley I would have said yes.

“We rode our luck a bit in the second half but once Kewsi got the equaliser I felt we were the side most likely to get a winner.” ★★★★★
