WHITES HOT TO AVENGE THEIR CUP DEFEAT

- JAMES FLEMING

DOVER Athletic got revenge for their cup upset as they came back from behind to win in an emphatic game at Hayes Lane.

Whites head coach Mike Sandmann hailed the character of his side as they recovered from falling behind early on to to climb to third place in the Academy South Division.

“We were difficult to beat and created many chances throughout the game,” Sandmann said.

“It was more pleasing to see the reaction from going behind and showed great character.”

The game started in a similar fashion to their 3-0 defeat to Bromley just a few weeks ago, as a defensive error saw Bromley take the lead at home.

However, the young Whites were not going to let fate strike twice, as they found their equaliser soon after.

A corner from the bobbled around in the box before it was eventually scrambled home by striker Kaeden Jeffreys.

The visitors took the lead soon after when a long ball over the defence was eventually fired into the box whrere Jed Dennis took a touch before unleashing a volley into the roof of the net for a half-time lead.

Shortly after the break, Dover added to the score. What looked to be an intended cross from the edge of the box from Max Woodine ended up nestling in the top left corner.

Dover ensured their victory shortly after this, as yet another set-piece was delivered brilliantly, and found Essa Jadama in the box.

He made no mistake from close range as he scored their fourth and final goal to round off an excellent victory for Sandmann’s side.

Dover sit just above Eastleigh in third on goal difference after their big win. It also means they are just seven points off the top of the table side Dartford.

Defeat for Bromley – their sixth of the campaign – sees them slip to 11th place in the table.
