PONTY’S SURVIVAL MISSION BOOSTED

PONTYPRIDD UNITED did their chances of surviving in the JD Cymru Premier the power of good with a 3-0 win at Barry Town United.

It was a victory that kicked-off Phase 2 of the Play-Off Conference and cut the gap between themselves and Aberystwyt­h Town just outside the drop zone to two points.

Ben Ahmun got the visitors off to a good start and Owain Jones added a second. Owen Pritchard completed the scoring eight minutes from time.

Penybont also won away from home as they triumphed 2-1 at bottom-of-the-table Colwyn

Bay. Chris Venables gave them a first-half lead before Lincoln McFadyen doubled the lead after the break.

There was some small consolatio­n at the death for the Seagulls as Matthew Hill pulled back an injury time goal. The defeat leaves Steve Evans’ side two points adrift at the bottom.

Aberystwyt­h Town had a Iwan Lewis goal just before the break to thank for a 1-0 home win over Haverfordw­est County.

In the Championsh­ip Conference, Connah’s Quay Nomads were frustrated at home by

Caernarfon Town as they were held to a 1-1 draw. Adam Davies gave the visitors the lead and the Nomads then had Michael Wilde sent off on the hour mark.

The home side had to wait until the 76th minute for Ryan Harrington to come to their resuce. They are 14 points behind The New Saints and ten points clear of third-placed Bala Town.

Bala also took a point from their 1-1 home draw against Cardiff Met. Finley Skiverton gave the Archers the lead and they held on until the 80th minute, when George Newell scored a penalty rebound.

The top three sides in the JD Cymru North all won, with table-topping Airbus UK Broughton taking all three points thanks James Davies making it 3-2 at Ruthin Town.

After a goalless first half, the game exploded into life with a penalty for the home side from Tom Dyer. Davies levelled before the Wingmakers hit the front.

Gwion Owen replied four minutes later to set up a thrilling finish, which saw Davies hit the net for his second goal.

Flint Town United were convincing 3-0 winners at home against Chirk AAA, where a Jake Mann own goal finally broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Elliot Reeves and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro then finished the job for the Silkmen.

Holywell Town stayed in the title race thanks to a 2-1 win at

Caersws. Jamie Breeze gave the Wellmen the lead, but Craig Harries levelled in the 78th minute. Mike Pearson got the winner.
