MACCA’S JOY AS BLUES POWER UP TO THIRD
CHESTER manager Calum McIntyre was delighted to see his team thump plucky Scarborough.
The Blues leapfrogged the Yorkshiremen into third in the table, with the Seadogs slipping to fifth.
Chester’s Tom Peers and Christian Norton had shots blocked early on, however Elliott Whitehouse set the victory wheels in motion when he converted his second spot kick in five days. Second-half goals from George Glendon and Peers gave the scoreline a more realistic look, and but for a couple of top draw saves from Ryan Whitley the margin could have been greater.
“I was pleased with most aspects of the performance,” said McIntyre. “All our units did well, defensively we where strong, in midfield I thought we impressed, whilst we caused them problems when we came forward”
Whitehouse took full advantage from the spot after Will Thornton was adjudged to have handled. The Scarborough skipper’s indiscretion plus his protests to the referee earning him a booking , which ultimately proved to be extremely costly, when he picked up a second yellow card four minutes from time.
Whitehouse was later unlucky to pick up a second booking for an innocuous challenge on Harrison Burke after 86 minutes.
Towards the end of the first half Whitley’s heroics saved efforts from Kevin Roberts and Norton.
Glendon doubled his sides credit account, after 67 minutes, scoring from 10 yards after excellent work by the industrious Peers.
Ben Tollitt, who joined Chester on Friday on loan deal from Oldham Athletic, was introduced just after the hour mark, and the tricky midfielder made his mark virtually immediately, firing just over from the edge of the area, and forcing another stop from Whitley.
Tollitt completed his impressive cameo performance when he turned orchestrator to set up Peers four minutes from time, the former Altrincham striker making no mistake from close in.
McIntyre will be pleased with the performance, but more importantly the overall performance which augers well for the final three months of the campaign. STAR MAN: George Glendon (Chester) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
