BOREHAM WOOD 5 MAIDENHEAD U 8

- ALFIE NICHOLSON

MAIDENHEAD UNITED forwards Enzo Pashaj and Jamie Davies combined to net an incredible eight goals for their side as the Magpies ran out as winners in a thirteen-goal thriller at Boreham Wood.

The game was described as ‘ridiculously stupid’ by Maidenhead manager, Aaron O’Brien, and the scoreline suggests such a remark is apt.

Twelth-placed Boreham Wood opened the scoring only to be pegged back almost instantly by the visiting side who have a poor record of late on the road, winning only one of their last five away fixtures.

Despite Boreham Wood only scoring 16 goals prior to the game – the second lowest in the division – they netted three times within 25 minutes, making it 4-1.

However, there was no respite.

Maidenhead responded with four goals of their own to take the lead heading into halftime, an outcome that was almost inconceivable a mere twenty minutes before the break.

The game continued to bear goals for both sides in the second half as well, but the stars of the show were Pashaj and Jamie Davies.

The Maidenhead manager explained how he had to reassure his young side in the early weeks of the season that eventually it would ‘click’, and his side’s eight goals are proof of his belief.

The scoreline finished 8-5 to Maidenhead with Boreham Wood’s only response to the Magpies three second-half goals being a late constellation strike.

Pashaj and Davies were left tussling over the match ball as Davies netted five and Pashaj earned a hat trick – his third treble in as many games.

Boreham Wood travel to Southend on Wednesday as they continue their battle to get out of the lower regions of the table.

Maidenhead host Maidstone next in the National League Academy Cup as they seek to continue their prolific form of late.
