A BRAND NEW 4G FACILITY, BOOTS ‘N’ ALL!

- By Robin Jones

WELLING Town have signed a deal which will give them a permanent home for the next five years.

From July 1, the Southern Counties East Premier Division outfit are to be based on a new 4G facility at K Sports’ ground in Cobdown, Aylesford, 23 miles from the Bexleyheath home of Phoenix Sports where they are groundsharing this season.

The licence will initially span five seasons before being reviewed.

The Boots have led a nomadic existence since they were formed as a Sunday side in 2014 before switching to Saturday football two years later and working their way up through the Kent County League.

They have previously played at the home of the former Thamesmead Town before sharing with Kent Football United and Chatham Town.

A club statement said: “Our growth from one Sunday morning park side not so long ago to our current level so quickly has brought many challenges, one of which being no home of our own, and therefore a huge disadvantage over many clubs we compete against in terms of fan base, support and pathway for future players.

“This agreement will transform the club overnight and we look forward to an exciting plan of works off the field, as well as the inevitable strengthening on the field.

“Our agreement will provide a new home for our first team, as well as provide stability and a greater pathway for our ever growing youth set-up which has expanded from one sole side 12 months ago to 18 now, with plans to increase this number in the coming close season.”

The nove offers the club exciting opportunities to hire out pitches for the 2024-25 season with information available shortly.
