SHOTS SNAPS OF VITALI ARE A KNOCKOUT!

-

BRAZEN Andrew Drury travelled 14 hours into war torn Ukraine – to present former world boxing champion and Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko with an Aldershot Town shirt!

Lifelong Shots fan Andrew, 56, has travelled to warzones for more than 20 years, first as a hobby, and then as a filmmaker and journalist.

So when the opportunity came to fly out to the Ukrainian capital, he thought he’d chance his arm and arrange a meet with the 52-year-old boxer turned political heavyweight – and take an Aldershot home and away shirt along with him!

To his delight, the 6’7” fighter, nicknamed ‘Dr Ironfist’, was happy to pose for pictures in the shirt with the photographs later going viral on the National League promotion chasers’ social media accounts.

“Vitali was such a humble and welcoming man, and what he is doing in Ukraine for the people of Kyiv is awesome,” Andrew said, revealing the 2XL shirts were the perfect fit.

“He was more than happy to wear the Shots shirt – you could tell he was a real sports fan.

“Aldershot is traditionally the home of the British Army because we are a barracks town, and the club has done a lot to show support for Ukraine with flags around the ground since the start of the invasion.

“When we were in Kyiv there were missile strikes and people dying, being bombed almost every day.

“I wanted to keep Ukraine in the minds of people back home and sharing my passion for football with this great man is a message that everyone can understand.”

An Aldershot spokesperson said: “We were delighted to receive images of Vitali Klitschko donning the red and blue.”
