CLASSIC CALLED OFF BY REFEREE

- By Freddie Gatrell

AWONDERFUL Slough Town display was cut short due to an off-field medical emergency, with the Rebels looking close to moving within a point of the play-offs.

The Rebels had raced into a four-goal lead at the break before Bath fought back. But, after the incident in the crowd on 70 minutes, the game was abandoned.

It started superbly for Slough and they were duly rewarded with another first-minute goal.

A free-kick was brilliantly delivered in by Matt Lench, finding the feet of Slavi Spasov, who had a straightforward task of slotting beyond Josey Casa-Grande in the Bath goal, making it three matches on the bounce that the Rebels have hit the net in the first minute of a match.

The strike put Slough in the driving seat, with another dangerous chance falling to Dan Bayliss, who saw his effort smothered two yards out.

The Rebels continued to dominate, with Johnny Goddard netting his 15th goal of the season, just before the half-hour mark. A mix-up was seized on by Goddard, who beat his man and wrapped the ball into the bottom-left corner, much to the delight of a packed Arbour Park.

Bath then lost the ball to Goddard, who rolled a pass into the feet of the electric David Ogbonna, who slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner.

Moments later, it was Ogbonna bursting through yet again, seeing his strike parried by Casa-Grande to Spasov, who netted his second just before the break.

The second half started well for Slough with a big chance for Ogbonna well saved. The Romans flooded back towards the Slough goal, with Ewan Clark being released in behind, neatly lobbing Dan Lincoln to grab a goal for the visitors in the 58th minute.

Seven minutes later the Romans netted their second of the afternoon, with a dangerous

cross into the feet of forward, Cody Cooke, who poked home past Lincoln.

As the clock hit the 70th-minute mark, unfortunate scenes off the field spelt the end of proceedings on the pitch, with both sets of players exiting the field.

After a discussion with the referee Nick Dunn, it was determined that the game should be abandoned.
