TWO OFF AS NASH HOLD UP THE BLUES
CHESTER debutant Kieran Burton and Curzon skipper Jimmy Spencer saw red in this controversial clash.
Both players were sent off for two bookable offences, but they can consider themselves unfortunate to fall victims of harsh and, some would argue, dubious bookings.
Chester have now extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches, however seven of those games have ended all square, the last four games finishing as draws, a point not lost on their manager Calum McIntyre. “I’m frustrated,” he said. “This is the longest we have gone in my time with the club without a win.
“I am very frustrated with the result today, albeit I thought today was the right result.
“It is up to me to find solutions, our focus has to be on the final league games, I will not panic, but I will critique the performances and find solutions.”
Chester had the better of the opening exchanges, George Glendon sent an 18-yard effort narrowly wide, and then was unfortunate when a shot from just inside the area rattled the visitors’ crossbar.
Curzon’s only chance of the first period saw Jamie Allen bring a good save from Wyll Stanway.
The lacklustre flow of the match was down to the players, however the referee didn’t help proceedings.
Chester’s Burton became the first man to be dismissed after 69 minutes when he picked up a second booking following the contentious award of a throw-in to the visitors.
Both teams continued to find it hard to conjure up solutions to breaking down the opposition defences – and as such the game as a spectacle rarely rose above the abysmal mark on the footballing Richter Scale.
Six minutes from time, Curzon’s Spencer became the second player to be given his marching orders, following a coming together with Chester’s Matty Williams.
When seven minutes of added time was shown there was an audible gasp of disappointment from the Deva congregation, who at this time had been praying for the final whistle.
