CHOCOLATE MEN DOING IT FOR OLY!

CADBURY Athletic are donating all proceeds from their home game against Coventry Alvis on Non-League Day towards Under 13 youth-team player Oly Yorke and his family, after he tragically suffered a traumatic brain injury at a local skate park in February.

Oly is recovering in a High-Dependency Unit and doctors have suggested that be beneficial for his recovery to transfer to a hospital in Surrey, where he can receive the specialist 24-hour care he needs.

The Midland League club have created a GoFundMe page for his treatment, recovery and supporting his family.

The Chocolate Men’s reserve-team coach John Hunter says the whole club and the local community are supporting Oly’s recovery.

“All receipts we collect from the game against Coventry will go towards Oly and his family,” he said. “The whole club and the wider community are behind this, we’ve noticed an in-swell of support from various other clubs as well and the local community.

“We’re hoping to have more of our junior teams in attendance and some of Oly’s teammates. The club are trying to give everyone as much support as possible but obviously Oly’s accident has been felt by everyone.

“Non-League Day is more often than not the biggest day of the season and we realise we have an opportunity to do something to help Oly and his family.

Underlining the challenges facing Oly’s family, Hunter added: “I’m in constant communication with Oly’s dad Warren, they’re extremely grateful for the support that they’re getting from the football club and the wider community as well, it is an incredibly difficult time for them.

“Both Oly’s parents are self-employed so have the added worry of trying to look after their son who has been in this tragic accident but also keep the lights on at home which is a horrible combination to have to deal with.”
