GREAT RUN HAS HARRY DREAMING OF HISTORY

- Danny Rust

HARRY Talbot had to cut a skiing holiday short in order to write his name into the history books and blast Great Wakering Rovers into the semi-finals of the Isuzu FA Vase.

Just a matter of days after hurtling down the French Alps at the popular resort of Val d’Isere, the attacking midfielder netted a second-half brace which helped the Essex Senior League side see off Falmouth Town.

Next up is a two-legged semi-final with

Vase favourites Worcester

City and Talbot is confident of causing another eye-catching upset after putting his skiing exploits on hold.

“I had to book an early flight back because I was due to land on the day of the quarter-final,” Talbot, 26, told The NLP. “My legs were aching, but I had to try and switch on because it was such a big fixture in the club’s history.

“The two goals against Falmouth are the most important of my career, but I’m hoping that will change in the semi-finals and potential final. “The confidence in the dressing room is unbelievable and we genuinely believe that we can beat anyone. We have already proven that in this competition because we have knocked out some difficult teams and gone to tough places. “Worcester are the favourites because of where they are in their division, but I don’t think anyone would want to play against us at the moment. There is no reason why we can’t reach the final.” Wakering’s record-breaking FA Vase run means they must play catch-up in the Essex Senior League promotion race, but boss Marcus Bowers reckons his side are firmly in the hunt for a return to Step 4. Talbot is keen to make it a season to remember by clinching a dream double under the Wembley arch.

“It’s tough to focus on the Essex Senior League when you’re making history in the FA Vase, but winning promotion was our initial objective and we know it’s very important to the club to get out of this division, so we want to do the double,” the former Rayleigh Town man added. “Playing at Wembley would mean the world – it would be a dream come true. Some of the biggest names don’t get the chance to play there, so it would be a really special occasion.”
