A BIG POINT FOR WANDS BUT MOORS DIG IN DEEP

- By Dan Stobbart

DORKING Wanderers brought their run of three straight defeats to a halt after sharing the spoils with play-off chasing Solihull Moors at Meadowbank.

Both sides scored within four second-half minutes minutes – Tahvon Campbell’s opener on the hour for the visitors cancelled out by Dorking’s Jason Prior to hand the Wands a precious point in their battle to beat the drop.

Wands boss Marc White said: “It’s definitely a game I feel we should have won.

“Across the 90, I felt we created enough good chances.

“We’ve left it late in the campaign to demonstrate we can compete at home in the way we did so well last season, we’ve very much done that in the last two home matches against top sides in this division.”

Solihull started the game the brighter, pegging the hosts back early on with the lively Tyrese Shade instrumental in carrying the ball forward and finding pockets of space.

Shade dragged a strike wide of target before Prior spurned Wanderers’ first real chance of the game by clipping the outside of the post with a downward header.

Moors were forced into an early change whend defender Alex Whitmore had to be withdrawn after a clash inside his own penalty area.

And their injury woes were compounded on the half hour after Jack Stevens underwent a prolonged period of treatment after taking a knock near the Dorking byline.

In tandem with Dorking’s Haydn Hollis requiring a bandage for a head injury and Mark Beck needing a change of shirt after suffering a blow to the face, a disrupted half finally concluded after 12 minutes of stoppage time.

The game remained evenly contested and steadily paced after the restart. Shade forced Harrison Male into a near post save, while Tom Blair blazing an effort over the bar at the ogther end.

Then, on the hour, Campbell broke the deadlock; latching onto a fine through ball from Joe Sbarra and calmly slotting past Male from 12 yards.

But, the lead was to prve shortlived – Blair’s measured cross towards the back post directed into the top right hand corner of goal by Prior for his 11th of the season.

The Dorking duo went mighty close to replicating the same move just moments later, and Charlie Carter almost won it for the hosts on the stroke of full-time but couldn’t make decisive contact on a ball flashed across the face of goal from the right.

The point kept Moors fourth in the table but boss Andy Whing said: “I hated every single minute of that!

“Injuries yesterday, injuries in the warm up and of course in the game itself, we were down to the bare bones.

“There was no rhythm to the game, it was a horrible one to watch, but I will happily take the point and we move on to the next one.”
