WHO would be a manager these days? Spinning plates with water-tight budgets and working under financial pressures and impatient chairmen, they are the first to get stick – and then the sack – when the going gets tough.

So, we believe any boss who comes up trumps under such scrutiny should be celebrated, which is why our NGA for Manager of the Year is much sought after.

Last year’s award went to Luke Williams, who led Notts County back into the Football League through the play-offs after scoring a National League record of 117 goals along the way.

Williams saw off a number of top contenders for the award and this year promises to be equally as competitive with a number of high-calibre bosses to pick form.

Paul Cook has kept himself to himself this season but has still steered Chesterfield to a truly remarkable National League title after the heartbreak of playoff final defeat to Notts last term.

He’ll take some beating but there are a number of other bosses in Non-League’s top-flight who deserve equal recognition for their efforts.

How about Tommy Widdrington who, in his first full season as Aldershot Town boss, has led the Shots into the promotion picture against all the odds.

Surely Maidstone United boss George Elokobi is in the running? He guided the Stones to the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating Barrow, Stevenage and Ipswich Town!

Andy Peaks is chasing back-to-back league titles with Tamworth after another storming season and it’s great to see deadly duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley back pulling up trees with title-chasers Radcliffe.
