SAM EXTOLS RYLANDS’ AWAY-GAME EFFORTS
WARRINGTON Rylands boss Sam Wilson expressed his satisfaction after his side battled to keep their unbeaten away record going at Hyde United.
The battle of the high-flyers – 3rd v 2nd before kick-off – ended up being an entertaining goalless draw, but it was Hyde who had the better opportunities to take the spoils.
Wilson said: “I think a draw was a fair result. Hyde will feel they had the better of the chances but we defended well and we are happy to continue the unbeaten away record. This is a difficult place to come.”
Rylands had the first opportunity on four minutes, but Mo Touray fired over the bar.
Hyde had the ball in the back of the net on 20 minutes when Manasse Mampala seemed to win a battle of strength against Javid Swaby-Neavin and slotted into the bottom corner.
However, referee Joe Moss, son of former Premier League referee John Moss, deemed Mampala to have committed a foul.
On 35 minutes, the visitors broke through Touray, whose cross met the run of Ben Hough at the far post but he couldn’t direct the finish on target.
Hyde had a big chance on 62 minutes. Jack Redshaw found himself one-on-one with Rylands keeper Luke Pilling. He beat Pilling with his shot but James Butler somehow managed to recover to clear off the line as the ball was going into the bottom corner.
The Tigers went close again on 84 minutes. Redshaw had a shot that was spilled by Pilling and Antoine Makoli struck the rebound goalwards but it was cleared off the line.
Late on, it looked like Hyde would take all three points, but Lewis Alessandra was denied by the crossbar from a header.
Rylands stay second, but the Tigers slipped a place to fourth.
Hyde boss Nick Spooner said: “I thought we played well, I’m disappointed not to have won the game.
“They are a well organised team, and they aren’t unbeaten away from home for no reason. It was two good sides going for it.”
