GAFFER’S TO TWIN

- Wreh 50, Tshikuna 70, Finn 89 By Dave Clayton STAR MAN: Jordan Cullinane-Liburd (Tamworth) ENTERTAINMENT:

TAMWORTH boss Andy Peaks hailed his runaway leaders for avoiding a bannana skin as they moved to within a point of back-to-back promotions.

A record attendance for a Step 2 game at The Lamb saw goals from Chris Wreh, Nathan Tshikuna and Kyle Finn.

Peaks said: “We sometimes haven’t stepped up to the mark in front of big crowds but everyone will have been impressed with the display, particularly in the second half.

We successfully evaded a potential banana skin against a decent side that perhaps deserve more than their position suggests.

“So we can go into the final four games knowing we can re-write the club’s history books if we pick up the final point we need to seal back-to-back promotions.”

It looked like the home side would get the job done quickly, coming closest via a Jordan Cullinane-Liburd effort that cannoned back off the far post. For the visitors debutant Codey Cosgrave proving to be a nuisance.

The Lambs have proven a tough nut all season but on 21 Sam Robbins took the ball down the left and drilled it into the area. It was not dealt with and Cosgrave found himself upended by keeper Jas Singh to give the visitors a golden chance from the spot. Darren Foxley stepped up and smashed it to Singh’s left, but the keeper pushed it away to preserve his side’s 25th clean sheet of the season.

The tide was soon in Tamworth’s favour after the restart. They came out of the blocks quickly again and took the lead on 52 when Wreh bagged his fifth goal in 15 games, turning on Ben Milnes’ through ball to fire low past Jack Giddens.

The Blues defence continued to work hard but Tshikuna made no mistake on 70 minutes picking up the ball on the right, cutting in and skilfully past Harry Beadle and Fraser Alexander before rifling into the roof of the net.

And there was time for one more goal via the Lambs leading scorer, Finn, with a minute left, when the Bishop’s Stortford defence failed to deal with a Beck-Ray Enoru ball from the left before Finn nipped in to angleing home his 14th strike of the season.
