The Non-League Football Paper

The race is now on to reign as top team

- ACERBIS Team of the Year

AT some point in your lifetime, however fleeting it may be, your club will play out a monumental moment in its already proud history.

It could be a spectacular cup run, an against-the-odds title victory or even a gritty battle to avoid relegation – all events which live long in the memory of players and fans alike and help to define the very fabric of a club.

With that in mind, we decided to create a Team of the Year award, which commemorates one special group of players, who have gone out of their way to achieve a truly spectacular feat during the season.

The award will be handed out at our annual Isuzu National Game Awards at AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane Stadium on Wednesday May 22 – and we need your help in deciding who walks away with the top gong!

Last year, Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham picked up the award after racking up a record 111 points to win the National League title.

But this time round there are several candidates equally as deserving in taking home that much sought-after NGA glass decanter.

Take Chesterfield for one. They had to play second fiddle to both Wrexham and Notts County last season – losing out in a tense play-off final – but have certainly redeemed themselves this time round.

Paul Cook’s men have led, pretty much, from day one and cruised to the National League title even before the Easter Bunny arrived with a 20+ points cushion. They’ve been simply sensational this season.

Also in the running, for a second successive year, are Tamworth. Just 12 months after waltzing to the Southern League Central title, Andy Peaks’ Lambs have leapt to new heights by adding the National League North crown, against all odds.

Yeovil Town will also be in the equation after racing towards the National League South title at the first attempt, under Mark Cooper, while Step 3 high-flyers Radcliffe and title winners Needham Market also deserve huge recognition for what they have achieved this year.

Any one of them would be a worthy winner come May 22.

These are just a few suggestions – we know are there are plenty more, equally credible options out there.

That is why we need your help! If you have a team in mind, please contact us and cast your vote so we can honour that club of this very special award.
